Blog 9 Design Thinking

After looking at the PDF file, I found this particular tool is used to develop solutions to problems - everyday problems.  Using 5 steps to help solve the problem, sometimes going back and reflecting, changing too meet the needs of the specific person or idea.

I see this valuable in the classroom/education as its makes the students look at real word problems and taking all their ideas and narrowing it to something that could work, testing the idea and either keeping it or making changes.  Getting the students to think, work together, cooperate and build something for the future.  I use a small part of his teaching in my classroom, as I begin with smaller (easier welds) skills in the beginning to get students comfortable and feeling successful before moving on to the more challenging welds.

This process is also similar to the program some of us are doing in the school. It is called Follow the Voices. We just started it this year, its geared at using different strategies to reach students for building relationships and providing students with a real choice for the future.

Jared Nichols brings a different way of thinking or at least trying to get people to think ahead.  To look at the future for new ideas, gain experience from real world thinking, to take risks for change to take place.  Instead of doing the same thing over and over, make changes, do something different, push the envelope.

  1. I have never heard of Follow the Voices but it seems like a good program to get students thinking about the future. Good points!

  2. I like how you made connections to things you are doing now in your classroom. That would help make this process easier to teach to your students.
